Well...I'm going to go ahead and apologize for not writing on the blog last week and giving you a lot of information for this week! :) Before I begin, I have some pictures from last week that I know that you'll enjoy!
We met Farmer John last week in the cafeteria. He talked to us about where and how some vegetables grow. We had a great time talking and visiting with him during, "School Lunch Week".
We also talked about fire saftey with some of our local firefighters. They talked about ways to be smart when dealing with fire. We saw a fireman put on his whole uniform, Olivia help demonstrate, "STOP, DROP, AND ROLL," and we were able to see Sparky and the big fire truck.
We enjoyed our "Cake Reward Party." Our class earned 40 behavior marbles from compliments from other teachers, listening to and following directions, and showing good classroom choices!
This is a busy week! Here we go:
Monday (TONIGHT) is Chick-Fil-A night!!! Go support our school at Chick-Fil-A by purchasing dinner (or a snack) tonight.
Tuesday is picture RE-TAKE day. If you would like your child to have their school pictures re-taken, please send in the picture form that was sent last week along with the money.
I will continue parent teacher conferences on Tuesday. I have received most of the slips back saying that you will be able to attend your scheduled conference. If things change, please let me know and I will try to re-schedule before fall break.
Our field trip is on THURSDAY!!! We are so excited to be visiting Mayfield Dairy Farm as a class. Most everyone turned in their money and permission form for this trip but if you haven't, please be reminded that I need it ASAP!!! ($8.50 for children and $8 for adults)
We will not have reading groups on Thursday or Friday.
I would like to have a PUMPKIN DAY on Friday to end our little unit on pumpkins!!! This is always so much fun each year. Not only do the students get to have fun with their very own pumpkin but we learn SO much in the process. So, I would like to ask that you allow your child to bring in ONE small to medium sized pumpkin (a size that they can carry into school by themselves) this FRIDAY, October 21st. We will be doing a center rotation of pumpkin activities on Friday afternoon. Please do not send in the pumpkins until Friday.
Fall break is ALL next week, October 24 - 28.
A little glance at what we're studying this week:
Reading --> We will be working on the reading skill of sequencing. I will be continuing our unit on pumpkins and using pumpkin books to teach this skill. In phonics, we will be working on "long o". Our spelling words follow the pattern of CVCe. We will also begin learning about contractions.
Math --> We are finishing up Topic 7 (using addition to solve subtraction) and we will be moving to the world of shapes by the end of the week.
Since we have been studying about addition and subtraction strategies, I believe that my students are ready for MATH FACT QUIZZES! Every week, I will give the students a set of math facts to practice throughout the week. On Friday, after our spelling test, I will give each student a "math fact quiz" on the facts for the week. This will be a timed quiz. There will be 12 problems and they will have 4 minutes to solve all problems. (I might adjust the time later on.) This will start AFTER fall break!
Dates to look forward to:
October 18 Picture re-takes
October 18 Parent/teacher conferences
October 24 - 28 Fall Break
