These wonderful ladies gave everyone a "World Milk" sticker and a pencil. We had a lot of fun looking at the Mayfield cow in front of our school!
Then, we learned how to save and conserve energy from, "The Energized Guy". Ask your child some of the ways that you can save energy at your house! We learned many different ways.
The last thing I want to share with you is about a program that our class will be doing together for the rest of the year. Here's a letter explaining what we will be doing:

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian:
Our class is a part of BlueCross WalkingWorks for Schools – we are taking steps for Tennessee’s youth.
Here’s why: BlueCross WalkingWorks for Schools was created to address the growing trend of decreased physical activity in the lives of our young people. Just a few steps a day can make a big difference – for health and learning.
What is it? BlueCross WalkingWorks for Schools is an in-school walking program for students, teachers, staff and administrators. The program engages classrooms across the state to teach children in grades K-5 the benefits of proper exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle. Participants are invited to walk at least five minutes each school day for a period of 12 weeks each semester.
The benefits we hope to see: Research shows that physical activity performed at school may help improve academic performance. Positive experiences with physical activity at a young age help lay the foundation for being regularly active throughout life.
It’s simple, it’s easy, it’s free: BlueCross WalkingWorks for Schools measures walking in minutes – not steps or distance – and is carried out with the supervision and co-participation of your child’s teacher and principal. Walking requires only a pair of comfortable shoes, a place to walk and a few minutes carved out of each day.
Here’s how you can help: First, support your child’s active participation in the program and encourage him or her to walk as much as possible, every school day. Yates Primary School also wants to encourage families to enjoy the benefits of walking at home in your child’s spare time as an alternative to television or video games. You can record walks done with your children in the evening hours with an easy-to-use home walking log, available online at BlueCross WalkingWorks for Schools Web site, www.WalkingWorksForSchoolsTN.com. The site also provides helpful information on nutrition and incorporating walking into your lifestyle.
Let’s get walking! We are excited to offer BlueCross WalkingWorks for Schools this school year and hope you will also enjoy walking with your child at home! Should you have any questions on the program, contact me or visit the BlueCross WalkingWorks for Schools Web site.
Love,
Ms. Meadors
