Are you ready for Thanksgiving?! Well, we're getting ready for our big upcoming FEAST next Tuesday! We are busy at school learning about the first Thanksgiving, making a few Thanksgiving crafts, practicing a Thanksgiving song, etc.! Our wonderful room moms should be contacting you this week to get your help to make our feast successful. We will be in charge of desserts, Capri Suns, and a few sides. You will receive a specific dish for your child to bring very soon! Our class, along with Ms. Corriher's and Mrs. Ginn's, will be joining together as pilgrims and Native Americans to celebrate the first Thanksgiving. I will have the students draw out of a hat, "Pilgrim" or "Native American". On the day of our feast, your child can come to school dressed as which ever person they pulled out of the hat. We will be making "hats" at school for both.
The BOOK FAIR is here at Yates all week! Our class will be making their wish list on Wednesday during regular library time. If you would like your child to purchase anything from the book fair, please send money in a labeled envelope. I have a class wish list of books on-line and a few in the actual library. You may also order books from the book fair on-line:

There will be no library check-out this week because of the book fair.
A note came home to you yesterday about our can food drive going on at school. Every day we are collecting different items. If it's easier, you may send it all in at once.
Don't forget that we will be out of school next WEDNESDAY - FRIDAY for Thanksgiving.
In READING this week, we will be reviewing our comprehension skill of comparing and contrasting. We will be reading various Thanksgiving books and using these books to practice our skill. Our PHONICS skill this week is the vowel sounds of y (long e and long i). We will be going over action verbs in GRAMMAR this week. In MATH, we are going to be comparing numbers (looking for patterns on a 100's chart, counting by 5's and 10's, odd and even numbers). We will have our math fact quiz on Friday on "adding 2". (1 + 2 = , 2 + 2 = , 3 + 2 = , etc.) If your child did not get all of their math facts correct last week, they will take the same one again. Once they have learned all of their math facts to 10, the will be able to receive a surprise prize! I will give a new fact quiz every Friday.
That might be all for now! If I need to tell you anything else, I'll blog again!! :) Have a GREAT week!!!
Love,
Ms. Meadors
