Whew! What a busy Monday it has been! Sorry I'm just now getting this newsletter out to you.
Here are a few things on my mind:
-THURSDAY, we are going to have "Dress up as your favorite animal" day! We have studied about a LOT of different animals over the past couple of weeks so we're going to end our unit by dressing up like our favorite one.
-That announcement reminds me to remind YOU and your child about the animal habitat project due on September 25th. Your child can complete a 3-D project (using a shoe box, etc.) or a poster board of the animal they choose.
-On Friday, we are having a day to celebrate our flag. We will be singing the Star Spangled Banner (you might have heard your child humming this tune around the house!) and gathering around the flag pole at 8:30 a.m. Make sure that your child is here on time (or a little before) and wearing RED, WHITE, AND BLUE!!!
-I sent out school/family contracts last week. Please fill these out and send it back to school even if you have already filled one out. Thanks! :)
-Mary Grace is our Champion of the week! We're excited to hear more about her and her family this week.
-If you haven't heard already, we have a new little member that we've added to our class (and NO it's not my baby boy!) Lucky, the teddy bear, is making his way around to all the boys and girls houses this month! (Just an FYI to put your mind at ease...I sanitize Lucky every day so he doesn't spread any germs!) He wants to come share an adventure with your child and then have your child write about it in his journal. This activity is a school-family project that I LOVE doing every year! Plus, who couldn't use a little more practice at writing complete sentences?!
Here's the week at a glance:
Theme: Animal habitats
Spelling words: fit, fits, win, wins, sit, sits, hit, hits, nap, naps, her, too
Comprehension skill: Main Idea
Phonics: Inflected ending -s and -ing
Grammar: Action parts of a sentence and word order
Math: Numbers, NUMbers, NUMBERS!!! We will continue practicing counting to 120, starting at any number less than 120. Please practice counting objects with your child at home. We are working on it at school but just a little fun practice at home will reinforce what's going on here! We will also be organizing, representing and interpreting data.
Science: Animals from different habitats
If you need me, I'm here! :)
Love,
Mrs. Hannah
